Located at the base of the Italian Alps, half way between Milan and Turin lays a magical little place called Biella. Famed for being the one of the world’s hubs for high-end textiles, namely woollen, designed especially for men’s suiting. But why is Biella so famous? And what makes it one of the world’s best regions for textile production?
Biella possesses unique geographical features that brought settlers there; namely, high mountain pastures with temperatures moderated by the Italian Alps. This brought the sheep farmers to the area for grazing, and they also took advantage of the many Alpine streams and lakes. The excess of sheep naturally brought the woollen industry to Biella; it was very common for families to have looms in their homes, passing the trade down from generation to generation. Now these same geographical features and temperatures also assist in creating the ideal climate for the production of the best super fine wool in the world. Because of this, Biella is home to some of the mots reputable mills in the world such as Vitale Barberis Canonico, Lanificio Fll.i Cerruti dal 1881, Reda 1865 and Drago to name a few.
I am proud and delighted to be able to present to you the latest Autumn/Winter collection from Styl Biella, an agent that represents a variety of larger and smaller mills throughout Biella. Each season they curate a collection of seasonal cloth sourced from the best in the business.
This season, we start with some beautiful flannels with slub stripes and checks, bold patterns and textures and pure wool classics with a twist. We also see some heavy weight boucle, herringbone and twill weaves in wool and cashmere blends for the quintessential overcoat in deep natural tones and of course a very cool collection of 100% cotton corduroy for a chino with some flare or possible even a full suit for the more daring.
Of course the collection is much larger than what we show you here, but I couldn’t resist in showing you a few of my favourite pieces.
Get in touch with me to arrange a time to view the entire collection. I assure you, it will not disappoint.
