Welcome to my second instalment of my Catch Up Series with Time and Tide Watches . This time, I’ve sat down with resident influencer and content creator Andy Green. I’ve known Andy for some time now, and have always admired his watch collection, so catching up with him could be a costly exercise for me #watchenvy. Andy has an amazing collection of watches, and also interviews plenty of time piece aficionados himself, so today I’m turning the table on Andy himself, and asking the interviewer a few questions.
1. What was your most recent Carl Navè purchase and how do you like to wear it?
My recent Carl Navè purchase was a bit of a bulk buy of various separates, which is how I like to do my shopping. I enjoyed sitting down with Carl and choosing a couple of jackets and trouser combinations, that would all work nicely together.
This particular outfit is completely Carl Navè, and I really like how effortlessly classy it is. In my opinion, it’s how smart casual is done. Regarding accessories, I want to let the outfit do the talking, and keep them to a minimum. On this occasion, a nice pocket square (Christian Kimber – a gift from a good friend), is all that was required.
2. How would you describe your general style and what would do you wear on a daily basis?
I’d describe my style as very much ‘lifestyle’. I rarely wear suits these days and find myself dressed in what you’d call ‘smart casual’, for the most part. Really though, I dress for my lifestyle, which means versatility is key. I love an outfit which lets me dress up and down effortlessly. This could be as simple as throwing on a tie or switching from sneakers to dress shoes. When it comes to getting value from your clothing, buying (and dressing) for your lifestyle is my number one tip. I also think that if a piece of clothing fits you well, then you’ll wear it (and enjoy it) more often.
3. Tell us about your role at Time & Tide Watches, and perhaps the most exciting thing that has happened in the last couple of months.
My role at Time + Tide is ‘Community Engagement Officer’, and it’s a little bit of a hybrid one, as it’s evolved over the years that I’ve been around.
I do a mixture of writing – such as reviews and interviews, but I also do some work behind the scenes. The most exciting thing this year for me has been Baselworld (naturally). It’s a great annual voyage we as a team make, and is a fantastic opportunity to see a big chunk of the new 2018 releases. It’s a pretty special place and a rare chance to catch up with all our peers.
4. Which timepiece do you like to pair with your Carl Navè suit and why?
This really depends, but at the moment I chose to pair my outfit with my newest purchase, a 1991 Rolex GMT-Master, reference 16700. This piece happens to also be my birth year, making it a little extra special. I think the coffee-like patina on the dial works nicely with the other earthy-tones in my outfit.
In the photo shoot below, Andy wears a made to measure sports jacket, custom made chinos and made to measure shirt all by yours truly. The cloth is from Italian mill Filarte and is a s gingham check of sorts, withe a beautiful combination of brown, navy and burgundy. A perfect match with Andy’s stunning birth year Rolex. Andy’s chinos are completely custom and individually tailored for him, and I love the olive cotton we chose here. The inverted box pleat and cuffed hemline is very current and looks greta on him. Lastly, I love that Andy is wearing this beautiful blue chambray cotton, which I made especially for his trip to Basel. I know I am biased, but I think Andy looks great, and epitomises “smart casual”.
I hope you enjoyed this little insight in to one of Melbourne’s best man about town, make sure you go and go him on Instagram @andygreenlive and @timeandtidewatches.
