I’m often asked about what is the best way to build your wardrobe for a strong, stylish and consistent look.  I like to start with the good old classics – a navy blue suit and a grey suit,  preferably in a plain weave but definitely a Super 120 or Super 130 for a touch of elegance.  These options will often you the most versatility and will work with any shirt, tie and shoe combination.

I am fan of brown shoes with navy blue and grey suits, even a tan shoe in the spring and summer months. Choosing the right shoe will allow you to be more creative with the colour palate for your shirt and tie, so don’t discount soft pastel colours and bold primary colour when you are selecting your options.  They will all work.  For a more elegant and evening time dress code, stick to a monochromatic look.  White shirts add the best contrast and a carl tie teamed a shiny black shoe is sharp but understated.

In my Autumn/Winter 2016 capsule collection I wanted to show how the best of the classics can be worn with ease and versatility. These are the suits you should always get two pair of trousers with, as they will last the test of time, but its also a good a idea to incorporate a waistcoat for a touch of flair.  This is the perfect way to give your suit some personality and make it look like a different suit every time it is worn.

I have opted for wider lapels this season, but these should always be measured to each individuals proportions. I wide or narrow lapel can be a nice statement, but it needs to be attractive on the body and not be trend focused.  It’s always about the proportions and details with me.  I have also chosen a scoop neck waistcoat as opposed to a v-neck.  This is on trend at the moment, but I have always been a fan of this neck line, as it opens up the chest area, exposing more of the shirt and tie.  The waistcoat is almost unseen until the jacket is opened up. Trousers are still tapered and cut with a soft break on the shoe.  This adds a longer and more lean look to your silhouette.  Something that we could all do with.
