TREND ALERT – THE GOLDEN GLOBES 2020

The annual Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles earlier this week and the paparazzi have been going crazy with images surfacing of all of the best-dressed celebrities. As always, I like to shift the focus from women’s fashion onto the men’s fashion to highlight some of the trends I have seen emerge.

This year, the tuxedo was reinterpreted in several ways. We saw single-breasted, double-breasted dinner suits with peaked lapels and also shawl collars. We also saw vibrant colours and lots of 1970’s references, but my preferred takeaway trend was the tone on tone, which consists of shirts and ties matching the colour of the suit.

Here is a list of my favourite looks and bit about the men who wore them:

Pierce Brosnan – I love the elegance of this French navy ensemble. Pierce wears a jacquard weave dinner jacket with French navy trousers, complemented by the tonal navy blue shirt and French Navy satin bow tie. He has made this navy on navy look extremely appealing.

Sacha Baron Cohen – not wanting to get lost in the crowd, Sacha has taken this tonal look to new heights with the help of this Yves Klein Blue outfit. Perfectly matching his double-breasted dinner suit to his shirt and tie, Sacha is a literally a beacon.

Kit Harrington – wears a classic peak lapel tuxedo, with one button, Satin highlights are on the lapel and pockets, but it’s the beautiful black pleated dinner shirt and tie that makes this look so sharp.

Wesley Snips – here is a name we haven’t heard from in a while. And he’s making sure we will not forget him any time soon, Wesley has channeled back into the 1970s in his three-piece maroon tuxedo. The pink ruffled shirt is how Wesley has adopted the tone on tone trend, electing for different shades of the same colour. It’s a bold statement, but I love it.

Seth Macfarlane – Opting for a more conservative adaptation of the tonal trend, Seth is all black in his bespoke shawl-collared tuxedo.

If any of these looks inspire your new made to measure dinner suit or you have an upcoming wedding that requires some styling, make an appointed via our home page, we’d love to create something special for you.
