It is that time of year again, have you started thinking about your summer wardrobe? With all of those fun garden weddings, beach parties, Christmas and New Year events, and catch-ups, you must be wondering what is hot right now. Fortunately, we have an array of trends, which have emerged off the back of Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival.
Tailoring has certainly taken a more relaxed approach over the last few years; we’ve seen a lot of soft natural looking shoulder constructions and a tendency for the jacket and trousers to drape rather than hug your physique. This means, that the ultra-tight suit is well and truly dead, jackets now hug the body but allow the garment to drape nicely revealing a nicely tailored fit.
As for trousers, we are seeing a lot of pleats and cropped cuffed hemlines as opposed to a super skinny fit. These also have a beautifully tailored drape but are fitted in the right places.
Colours and tones have shifted somewhat, with brown, beige, green and every shade in between taking center stage at the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
I particularly love the spezzato (broken) look, which contrasts your trousers from the jacket. It shows the diversity and willingness to break from the norm. A spezzato look is very elegant and can take you from day to night quite easily. Usually seen as a more casual way of dress, the spezzato is your perfect spring/summer look. Just be sure to bring in some form of pattern in your shirt and accessories.
Here are some of my favorite outfits from the Spring Racing Carnival. You may even recognize a few people.
