All weddings are a celebration, but this particular wedding was more of a festival, of epic proportions. Held on a private estate in Byron Bay, Jay and Sarah’s family and friends flew in to celebrate their union. Likened to some of the best international music festivals in the world, this wedding was literally built from the ground up. Beautiful teepees were erected along the gorgeous coast line, with food trucks, DJs and entertainers all brought in to put on the best party Jay and Sarah will ever throw. I suppose this is what you’d expect from a couple who met and later engaged at Rainbow Serpent festival.
I’ve already made a few pieces for Jay and I admire his personal style. I’ve particularly enjoyed watching his love of sartorial garments evolve and we’ve had fun experimenting on other made to measure pieces before we attempted the wedding suit. The very first garment I made for him was a made to measure suit for his birthday party. It was a sharp smoking jacket ensemble with a satin lapel, so his wedding suit needed to take an alternative approach, and a music festival come wedding in Byron Bay certainly called for something different.
Jay wanted to look special, yet feel comfortable. He was inspired by a soft Neapolitan style of tailoring that you would expect to see on the isle of Capri, and it had to be off white. I came across this beautiful wool/silk cloth from the masters at Huddersfield Fine Worsted, which Jay loved. The soft lightweight feel made it perfect for the season and the silk component gave it additional strength.
We went for a soft canvas structure, with broad peak lapels and of course a low fastening 6-button double breasted jacket; complimented by a relaxed pleated trouser. I am sure you will agree Jay looked super suave in his custom made suit and stood out amongst his ten flamingo like groomsmen. I hope you enjoy the photos of Jay and his gorgeous bride. I loved working on this garment and couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
Congratulations to the couple!
