I love weddings, and I love making suits for weddings, but this one was a little more special than most. My darling cousin Lauren married her sweetheart Joel in a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony in a little town on the NSW northern beaches. The wedding guests included our big crazy Italian family and Joel’s almost as crazy Irish family. We ate, drank and partied well into the night and throughout the weekend got to spend some quality time making new friends and re-connecting with old ones.
I was thrilled when Joel asked me if I could make his bespoke wedding suit. He lives in Brisbane however he travels a fair bit for work, so we were able to make the fittings work and I was able to hand-deliver the suit the day before the wedding when I arrived in Casuarina.
Joel doesn’t wear suits that often, the Queensland weather doesn’t really allow for it, so we decided to go for a classic and elegant three-piece suit with some of my signature details. Joel is quite a tall guy and because of this he could pull off the details of a broad peak lapel with enlarged side pockets. We also went for a scoop neck waistcoat instead of the V shape, which was cut with only four buttons, which allows you to see more shirt and tie to lighten up the entire look.
The cloth was one of my absolute favourites. A super 120’s French navy basketweave from Vitale Barberis Canonico. The cloth has such a stunning depth of colour and a beautiful drape. A versatile cloth that can be worn very elegantly exactly as Joel did, with a white shirt, ivory tie, and black shoes, but it can be softened easily with the addition of soft pastel colours in the shirt and tie area and worn back with a brown or tan shoe.
Joel looks so handsome, but it was his beautiful bride that stole the show, Lauren was a vision in her custom Pronovias white gown.
There were far too many beautiful photos to choose from, but here are some of my favourite. I hope you enjoy.
A big congratulations to Lauren and Joel and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day.
